Fr. Sigmund Trip

Holy Land Trip Photos

This group shot was taken in the midst of an ancient synagogue, built in 200 AD in the town of Capernaum. After being rejected by his hometown of Nazareth, Jesus called this his home while He taught in Galilee. St. Peter lived with his mother in Capernaum and the octagon Church of St. Peter was built over top of the ruins of their home. Several important events of Jesus' teaching years happened in Capernaum: The calling of the Disciples, the healing of the Centurion's servant, and the raising of the little girl from the dead. The synagogue was the site of the first confrontation between Jesus and the scribes and Pharisees.
Church of St. Peter in Gallicantu.
Near the wall of the Church of the Pater Noster, is a tree similar to the one the soldiers would have taken branches from to make Jesus' crown of thorns.

Here is a Journal of the Trip
