The purpose of the Social Concerns Ministries is to discern the needs of persons in the parish and wider community, especially the poor, and identify resources to meet those needs. The goal is to fulfill the justice dimensions of scripture and our church tradition, acknowledging that every Christian is called to serve and to work for justice, including Respect Life efforts.
The scope is twofold: to meet immediate needs and to work for changes in the structures of society that are oppressive. Those involved in the social concerns ministries work with parishioners, community groups and other parishes to help solve related problems.

Respect Life Ministry
The mission of this ministry is to support the teachings of the Catholic Church on respect life issues through parish education, outreach and prayer, and to support local organizations that respect the dignity of human life from conception to natural death, especially those organizations that provide crisis pregnancy support.
We participate in parish activities such as the monthly Pro-Life Movie Nights, Pro-Life Burger Nights at the KC's, Pro-Life Rosary March in October, and the Pro-Life March For Life in Washington, DC in January each year. New members and new ideas are always welcome. Planning meetings for various events are posted in the bulletin.

Christmas Outreach Ministry
The Christmas Outreach Program at Saint Francis Borgia provides our parishioners with the opportunity to share their good fortune with other families in the area at Christmas. One of the agencies helped is the Pregnancy Assistance Center in Washington. Gifts are also offered to many families who have children with physical impairments; others are dealing with financial hardships, spousal abandonment, violence, and much more.
This outreach ministry collects hundreds of new unwrapped toys during the Advent season. The program ends before Christmas with the distribution of gifts to all the select families.
If you would like to participate in this giving ministry, please contact:

St. Vincent dePaul Society
Inspired by the Gospel values, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, a Catholic lay organization, leads women and men to join together to grow spiritually by offering person-to-person service to those who are in need and suffering in the tradition of its founder, Blessed Frederic Ozanam, and patron, St. Vincent de Paul.
Organized locally, Vincentians witness God’s love by embracing all works of charity and justice. Our parish collaborates with Our Lady of Lourdes parish in relieving need and addressing its’ causes, making no distinction in those served because, in them, Vincentians see the face of Christ.
They meet on the second Tuesday of each month in Room 3 of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Center.
